So over the years the coil, which heats the hot water via your gas boiler, gets covered in lime scale and reduces the efficiency/ increase the heat up time of the hot water. You need a new hot water cylinder. Thanks for the replies. It is a modern boiler with a pump, and a motorised valve and thermostat on the cylinder.
Welcome to the MSE Forums. The boiler is running on 2.2 pressure all the time and it takes 90+ minutes for the boiler to get to 65 degrees celcius. It's a bit ridiculous because when we turn the heat on in the morning by the time it gets to temp the sun is shininh, it's 11am and the atmosphere is warm anyway.

I know insulation helps to keep the heat in the house but I don’t think it would help with the initial heating in the morning.
