I have a conventional wood boiler with hot water baseboard I plan on cleaning everything and brushing the chimney a final time. What about the water in the system???
My boiler will go on for about 4-5 mins, then turn off for 3-4 mins. The thermostat is set to 68 and its reading a current temp of 55 so its shutting off way before reaching desired temps. On the boiler it reads around 12-15 psi when it turns off, which I understand is good, but the temp is 190 and it seems to go off when it starts going over 190.

Often, the circulator is controlled by the house thermostat. It the house needs heat, it turns the pump on and sends a signal to the boiler that heat is required.

Author: packy (MA) it should be pretty simple to find the problem. once it has failed, use a multimeter to see if there is 24V at the gas valve. that's a pretty old boiler so there probably isn't a spill switch or vent damper for the 24V to pass thru. 24V no doubt comes from the control straight to the gas valve.
